Most people don't even think about their pension funds, and it is supposed to be an investment in their future. What future will there be if the funds are further contribute to climate change? This is a super interesting concept, Luke!
This is such an important perspecitve that rarely gets discussed. The pension system connection to fossil fuel expansion is something most people have no idea about. I had never really thought about how my monthly contributions could be indirectly supporting companies like TotalEnergies that are still exploring new oil fields. The whale analogy is really efectiv too, it makes the ocean connection feel more concrete. The fact that £88 billion from UK pensions is invested in fossil fuels while we're trying to hit climate targets is kind of mind blowing. I'm defintely going to check which fund my employer uses and see if there are sustainable options available. Thanks for laying this out so clearly.
Really eye opening stuff about TotalEngeries and the other fossil fuel companies. I had no idea my pension was actually fundng their expansion projects. Makes you wonder if switching to a greener fund could actually make a difrence in the long run. Thanks for breaking this down in such a practical way.
I totally agree Daniel. Very enlightening and informative. Thanks Luke!
You’re very welcome!
Thank you for sharing. I might give this a read soon.
Great post. This has been a topic that has been true for decades now, but seldom addressed.

Thanks so much for your support. The levers of change are all around us, I’m trying to find out exactly what they are.
