Yet another tragic day for whales. How is it possible that one man's obsession with killing whales, enabled by his wealth, is allowed to continue with this shameful pursuit?
It is always possible to revoke a license when it is no longer in the public interest and the government has the evidence to prove this if there is a legal challenge. And at worst, reinstate it when it's too late or pay damages. I can't imagine the company can prove it would cause of massive financial damage given there is very little, if any, business sense for whale hunting as no-one buys the meat or any other byproduct anymore.
Thank you, Luke, for your summary of the events taking place since last week. I have been following the news, trying to understand the complex history to gain some clarity of how this action transpired. Your comments have helped me to understand some of the issues and I am grateful.
Didn't Sea Shepherd, under Paul Watson, sink half the Icelandic whaling fleet in 1986? Watson did say that if Lawson started up again he'd be there to get in their way...

Despicable

Legalistic excuses do not save whales.
Yes, that was my point. The government could have taken a different route and prevented this.

Another body blow to nature, to ocean life and, all life.

Sad. You didn’t mention the Faroe Islands’ annual hunt. Have they stopped?
They haven’t, but technically it’s not commercial whaling. Hundreds have already been killed this summer already.
In this day and age their ancient tradition is not necessary or relevant. Thanks for waking me up.
